Andrew Hill is Professor of Medical Psychology, Head of the Academic Unit of Psychiatry & Behavioural Sciences, and Director of Student Progression at the School of Medicine.
He trained as a psychologist at the University of Leeds. Appointed to a lectureship in 1988, he developed and coordinated the teaching of psychology and sociology to medical students. He continues to make a significant contribution to student education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
His research interests include weight and shape self-perception in children/adolescents, appetite control, and the variety of psychological issues inherent in obesity and eating disorders. He has been involved in several national and international initiatives on obesity, has research collaborations in the UK and Australia, and has received research funding from national organisations in both countries.
Andrew is a past Chairman of the UK Association for the Study of Obesity and is currently a member of the UK Department of Health’s Obesity Review Group. He is an editorial board member of the following Journals: International Journal of Obesity, Body Image, Obesity: Science and Practice, and Pediatric Obesity
